There is more than one artist called Quartz. 1) Quartz came out of the British hard rock hotbed of Birmingham to join the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement in the late '70s. With a lineup that included John Bonham-associate Mike Hopkins and future Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nichols, they were actually founded under the name Bandylegs but changed when Jet Records showed interest in the band.
Formed in spring 2005 by founding members Sylph(Vocals) and Dr Decay(Synths, programming and backing vocals), but nothing as such was done apart from a few programed tracks and discussions of direction which became ironically nothing... Sylph decided to quit due to lack of motivation and commitment in December 2007. In January 2008, Dr Decay took it upon himself to carry on the project initially with his brother and cousin which never became of anything.

The band, which has evolved its style over the years, has been classed as electronic or dance. Bomb the Bass was the creation of the British musician Tim Simenon. His first single "Beat Dis" from the album "Into The Dragon" was a number two hit in the uk and was one of the first songs to introduce the mainstream to sampling culture (along with songs by Paul Hardcastle, M/A/R/R/S and S'Express).

Initially known as Sweet Vengeance, guitarist/vocalist Chris Astley, guitarist Kristian Havard, drummer Dennis Gasser and bassist Paul Mackenzie created enough of a stir through their live performances that the English branch of Roadrunner Records took notice and signed the group in January 1989.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is a rock band formed in 1976 from Gainesville, Florida, USA and led by Tom Petty. Petty has been supported by his band, The Heartbreakers, for the majority of his career. He has occasionally released solo work, as was the case with his 2006 album Highway Companion on which he performed most of the backing instrumentation himself.
