A self-taught pianist from the age of 7, Dustin O'Halloran's personal histories give us some clue to the thickly-woven tapestries of his music: he has lived in LA (where he studied art at Santa Monica College and formed the much-adored Devics with Sara Lov), Italy (in the depths of rural Emilia Romagna) and Berlin. His arresting, heartbreaking music is as much an elegant exercise in nuance and grace as it is a pure, intuitive, personal expression – and here is where we see some explanation into Dustin's quiet rise to notoriety and his continued ascension.
Plainsong was formed by Ian Matthews (previously in Fairport Convention) in 1972 with Andy Roberts, Bob Ronga, and Dave Richards. In Search of Amelia Earhart was released the same year with relatively poor sales. However the critical response was largley positive. Their follow-up, Plainsong III was more country orientated. During its production, Ronga quit and Matthews and Richards were unable to agree on future direction. They disbanded before the album's completion. The early 90s brought renewed interest in the band, with several subsequent releases:
Nosowska is an abbreviation of Katarzyna Nosowska (aka Kasia Nosowska), best known as the lead singer of Hey (Polish rock band, she co-founded in 1992). Besides her career with the band, she has released five solo albums, to date. Her solo releases are substantially different in style from that of Hey's. While Hey has been faithful to grunge / rock, Kasia has experimented with industrial & electronica sounds, e.g.

Bassnectar on his history, posted via bassnectar.net A quick run down of my musical life:
When I was in junior high I began discovering music that struck me, as opposed to music that felt familiar (like my parent’s music). This was mostly Metallica (the first song I heard of theirs was “Enter Sandman”, so this was after they had already become “mainstream” and blown up), NWA (which I memorized completely verbatim)...
Julia Shammas Holter is a classically-trained keytarist from Echo Park. After infiltrating Human Ear Music headquarters dressed as an intern, she wrote and recorded her own release on the label. Her music is witty, surreal and optimistic. She plays without sarcasm in the terrains that divide sentimentality, passion, and control. Her songs are written instinctively, and treated with an off-kilter fastidiousness, working orchestral variety from minimal instrumentation.
Lail's songs tell little stories. Some will make you laugh. Some will make her laugh. One might make you laugh and cry at the same time. Her voice is her friend. Sometimes it is loud. Sometimes it is quiet. She is practicing being very loud and very quiet at the same time. Her shows are special. Some people say they are theatrical. Some people say they are honest. Can she be theatrical and sincere at the same time? Lail Arad lives in London with her goat and two chickens. She prefers writing songs to writing biographies.
