Formed 1989 by David Bridie and Helen Mountfort (members of Not Drowning Waving) Like their former band, My Friend The Chocolate Cake's music can be seen to straddle the worlds of ambient and world music, with an emphasis on piano and violin-led acoustic music. Influences range from the obvious (such as Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Celtic folk music), to the less obvious (such as John Cale and Talk Talk).
Talkshow Boy describes his music as "Hyperactive Glitch Pop", and you couldn't think of a better name for it. Listening to one of his albums is like watching a bunch of rats on speed eat their way through a wall of fairy floss, or riding on the back of a killer whale 2,000 feet below the surface. The only thing surpassing his recordings in sheer energy levels are his live performances, in which he walks about the entire venue interacting with the audience, when he's not rolling around on the floor or dancing like a madman.
Neon Neon is a collaboration between the artists Boom Bip and Gruff Rhys. They first worked together on Boom Bip's Blue Eyed in the Red Room album, released in 2005. Their debut album, Stainless Style was released on March 18th, 2008 through Lex Records. Their first single Trick for Treat is also out, and can be heard on their myspace page. The album "Stainless Style" was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Prize.
Phebe and Harry met in 2005 on MySpace and five months later Harry had moved from Bundaberg to Adelaide so they could be together. Harry had been in Brisbane hardcore band Slain of Myself and was a keen piano and guitar player. Phebe had no previous musical endevours, other than the few years of recorder she did in primary school. They did their first gig in 2007 after getting air play on community radio stations like Adelaide's Three D. Missy Higgins (born Melissa Morrison Higgins on August 19, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia) is one of Australia's most popular female singer-songwriters. Missy (Melissa) was thrust into the limelight in her homeland when her sister entered Missy into a competition, which she won.
