Formed around 1990 in Los Angeles, California, United States, by drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, and original bassist Paul d'Amour, Tool is a band that is most noted for combining alternative metal with a wide variety of progressive structures, irregular time signatures and lyrics that range from angry diatribes to meditations on philosophical and social matters.

Years ago, January 2010, Mark Smith, former vocalist of post/progressive metal band Pseudo-Messiah and brief vocalist of heavy metal band Raid, formally announced a new project tentatively named Space Bowl. Featuring newcomer drummer Ben Jones and guitar virtuoso Rory Duncan (ex Raid and Pseudo-Messiah - Now guitarist of Circus), Space Bowl was originally planned to be a musical experiment, combining space rock and extreme metal to create something truly unique. Michael Stephen Portnoy (born April 20, 1967) American drummer primarily known as the former drummer and backing vocalist for the progressive metal band Dream Theater. Known for his drumming prowess, Portnoy has won 23 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine. He has co-produced the last six Dream Theater albums with John Petrucci, starting from Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. From A Change of Seasons onwards, Portnoy has been writing a substantial amount of Dream Theater's lyrics, filling the void left by Kevin Moore, who left the band after the release of Awake.
