The Gin Club

Forming in Brisbane in 2003, The Gin Club casually coagulated around a regular open mic night held in a Brisbane pub. Originally based on a fairly elastic lineup, the band has stabilized but it is still a large ensemble with seven songwriters. Winning one day of recording time through a cancer fundraiser at Brisbane club The Troubadour enabled The Gin Club to record their first album. Releasing the album through a label (Plus One) associated with one of Brisbane's main alternative record stores gave the band a reason to tour nationally...

Shihad

Shihad are a four-piece band from New Zealand, comprising Jon Toogood (guitar/vocals), Tom Larkin (drums), Karl Kippenberger (bass) and Phil Knight (guitar). Their style is best described as "hard rock", although they were described as "metal" in their formative years. Shihad were formed in 1988 in Wellington, New Zealand. They were briefly known between 2002-2004 as "Pacifier". During this time the band was attempting to break into the US market and it was decided that Shihad sounded too much like the arabic word 'jihad', thus the name change. OZ

1. Oz is a Finnish band in the 80's. They're not very well known these days but they were among the first and most succesful bands and did some solid groundwork for the Finnish metal scene that blooms today. The band retired after releasing the "Roll the Dice" album, but reunited, located in Sweden, in February 2010. The band has, until this day, released 5 studio albums, 1 EP, Two singles and has appeared on "Scandinavian Metal Attack" splits 1 & 2.

Steve Kilbey

Self-described genius and musical megalomaniac, committed blogger at The Time Being and compulsive music-maker. Multi-instrumental arch wit and vegan. His band the Church have survived for almost 30 years (since 1980) in spite of/because of him. A joker, a toker, a midnight sleeper with five incredible daughters in two hemispheres. Handle with extreme caution.

Custard

1. Custard were a masterful band of pop craftsmen with an uncanny grasp of the two-minute-something single who seemed to have equal amounts of Devo, Pavement and, oddly, disco in their genetic makeup. They were also blessed with singer Dave McCormack, whose voice was innocent and boyish-sounding enough to get away with things that might ordinarily cause a fuss – from songs about speed labs to geeky dedications to Jim Henson and an infamous declaration that “music is crap”.

City Escape

City Escape was formed in August 2007 and immediately started writing songs and hit the stage. A few months later in January 2008 they released a 4 track demo which appears on Myspace and can be downloaded for free. As the months have gone on since the demos release the 4 piece Rock/Ambient group has gone on to play a substantial number of shows across Australia and has supported acts such as: Thrice (USA), Closure in Moscow, All Time Low, Elora Danan (RIP), Craig Owens, House Vs. Hurricane, Set Your Goals and Forgiven Rival.

The Devoted Few

The Devoted Few were an indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They began as the side-project of Benjamin Fletcher, best known as a founding member of Sydney noise rock band, Bluebottle Kiss. Benjamin also plays in Sarah Blasko's backing band. The Devoted Few released three albums, Sleepless (2002), Billboard Noises (2004) and Baby, You're a Vampire (2009) and a remix EP - Schematic Tracks (2005). The band played their final show in Sydney in October 2010. Fletcher has since moved to the UK and is working on a solo album.

Kisschasy

Kisschasy is an Australian band formed in Victoria, Australia in 2002. Since forming, their line-up has consisted of lead vocalist Darren Cordeux, bassist Joel Vanderuit, guitarist Sean Thomas, and drummer Karl Ammitzboll. The band has released three studio albums, two of which are gold certified, two extended plays, a documentary DVD and a compilation album in their 7 year career, selling in excess of 90,000 records.

The Yearlings

Roots/alt. country duo The Yearlings combine warm harmonies with delicate flat-picking and sparse country blues to create songs that are at once haunting and soothing. Hailing from Adelaide, The Yearlings have pushed new limits in Australia's Roots/Alt. country scene. Robyn Chalklen and Chris Parkinson have wasted no time in getting down to the business of making music since meeting at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2000. Their successful self-titled debut album (released on Reckless Records in 2003) was recorded live in 8 hours and long-listed for an ARIA nomination.

Angelas Dish

Angelas Dish is an Australian indie pop band from the New South Wales Central Coast, formed in 2004. The four-piece currently consists of songwriting duo, brothers Michael and Joshua Harris, teamed up with bassist Peter Clarke and drummer Scott Mitchell. They have released three EPs and one studio album in their five year career.
