The Law of Unintended Consequences states that, while human actions often give way to their intended results, all human actions have at least one unintended result as well. For example: tell your lover you don’t love him and he will eventually leave your bed. But, driven from your bed, this same person might be pushed so far off track that he packs a bag and heads for a secluded mountain retreat where he replaces a life of beer and pretzels for one of prayer beads and incense. Our actions reverberate in unexpected ways.

Artist Type:

Bruce Cockburn

Bruce Cockburn, (pronounced "CO-burn"), has had a long and distinguished career with much success in his native Canada. His first albums were fairly straight ahead folk music spotlighting his brilliant guitar playing. In fact, there were a good number of instrumental guitar numbers on those early recordings. A Christian element came into his music around the time of the album Salt, Sun And Time, and over time his writing has taken on a stronger and stronger political orientation.

Artist Type:

Fraser Nimmo

His songs cover the whole gamut of human experience and are delivered with flair, wit, compassion and serious musical ability on guitar and banjo. Essentially a serious songwriter who has been known to raise more than the occassional eyebrow, glass, roof, chuckle and conciousness, he treats his own material with the same conviction that he brings to music from the Scottish tradition, believing both music forms to be inter-related and complimentary.

Cuddle Magic

Cuddle Magic is a large ensemble and songwriting collective based in Brooklyn and Philadelphia. With nary an electric guitar in sight, Cuddle Magic uses a quiet 20th century palette – vibraphone, clarinet, muted trumpet, banjo, ukulele, violin, vocal counterpoint, etc… – to create a rhythmically sophisticated folk music from an imaginary folk.

Artist Type:

Alex Sheppard

Alex Sheppard is a 20 year old singer songwriter, who has been spinning her tales of drunken Cinderellas, snowman love affairs and early morning stumbles through London since her first gig when she was 15. She has drawn comparisons with the likes of Regina Spektor and Jamie T but if you compare her to Kate Nash you are clearly a fool. Originally from Norwich, where she was a finalist in the 'Next Big Thing' competition, (previous winners include The Pistolas and Le Tetsuo) she has been praised by NME as an 'antifolk wonder' and Zane Lowe for her 'great lyrics.'

Artist Type:

Jack McKeever

Once upon a time, outsiders flocked to NY's East Village to forge new
directions in music. This was a time when no one would associate Avril
Lavigne with punk or DYI alternative music with any formula. This time
has mostly passed away except for the modern masters, who still follow
their own artistic muse with complete disregard for the values of the
market place. These highly developed voices still forge their music with
no allegiance outside of the the voice of their muse.
Jack McKeever is one of these entities. Sophisticated, deeply connected
