In the end of the 80s and in the early 90s, Roxette, a pop-rock duo from Halmstad, Sweden, stood among the top bands in worldwide sales and notoriety, brandishing a simple yet effective blend of pop with a slight edge and occasional hints of dance. First formed back in the 1990s, UK based artist "Macrocosm" (Mike Letchford) started life producing ambient music, but moved into experimental "intelligent" dance music and a period of drum and bass. Featured as "demo of the month" in April 1996 edition of Future Music magazine (with the song "Choral Reefer", he joined the label Protean Vision Quest in 1997 (along with artists like Gnomadic) supplying music for the "Ancient Alien" video, and regularly performing in Brighton and as part of a UK "Ambisonix 3D Sound" tour (along with the band Quanta).

Refused is a hardcore punk band originating from Umeå, Sweden, formed in 1991. The band's final lineup comprised its founding members, vocalist Dennis Lyxzén and drummer David Sandström, as well as guitarists Kristofer Steen and Jon Brännström. Their lyrics were often of a non-conformist and politically far-left nature. The band released five EPs and three albums before initially splitting up in 1998.
