The end of 2006 saw one of those moments in the UK music scene. Unheard of until October of the year, by December, a five piece band called The Twang were the subject of discussion in the pages of the NME, the message boards of a hundred band sites, the A & R departments of pretty much every record label of size in the UK whilst their demos were being played on BBC Radio One in the middle of the day.

Polvo

Polvo is an influential indie noise rock band of the 1990s from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. The band was fronted by guitarists/vocalists Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski. Eddie Watkins played drums, and Steve Popson played bass guitar. The band reformed in 2008 with Brian Quast assuming drum duties. Polvo are considered by some to be one of the key proponents of a genre which came to be known as math rock, although in interviews the band disavowed that categorization.

Rig Up Explosive are a post hardcore disco outfit from Nantwich, Cheshire, UK. Combining the heaviness of Glassjaw with the upbeat rhythms of dance music. The band's line-up consists of:

J Mascis and the Fog

J Mascis and The Fog is the post-Dinosaur Jr. musical project embarked by Dinosaur Jr.'s founding member, musician J Mascis. After fulfilling his contractual obligations to Blanco y Negro in the UK and Sire Records/Reprise Records in the US, Mascis holed up in his home studio in Amherst, MA, which he named Bob's Place after his pet bulldog. Recording 99% of the instruments on the recordings, he emerged from the studio with the first J Mascis and The Fog album, More Light, an album title inspired by Mascis' growing interest in "hugging saint" Ammachi.

The National

The National is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band formed in 1999, by friends from Cincinnati, Ohio. The band's lyrics are written and sung by Matt Berninger in a distinctive, deep baritone. The rest of the band is composed of two pairs of brothers: Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Scott and Bryan Devendorf. Aaron plays guitar, bass and piano, Bryce plays guitar, Scott plays bass and guitar, and Bryan is the drummer.

The Posies

The Posies began as a set of informal home recordings by Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow and eventually became a full-fledged band. Their mixture of literate, clever, melodic pop with hard-hitting guitars made them critics' darlings and college-radio favorites, although commercial success always eluded them.

Record Department

Record Department are a band from the UK, formed in Leeds as the product of a hastily agreed upon gig. In it's early form the band consisted of it's three founding members: Jonny Price (lead vocals, guitar), Jon Burrow (guitar) and Ryan Abbt (bass guitar) who were joined later by Sarah Pinnell (drums). The band found mixed success with this line up, becoming one of the winners of Leeds Bright young things in 2008 but also parting ways with Pinnell later that year.
