Mezzanine

Mezzanine is an indie rock band from Perth, Western Australia.

Channeling the ghost of a time when rock was straight up and actually meant something, Mezzanine have an attitude that pretension dares not fondle. They energise and humanise the Perth music landscape with power chords and passion, drawing teeth from the likes of Thurston Moore, Anton Newcombe and Stephen Morrissey. A self professed loud and energetic combo, they play each show like it's the last 30 minutes of their lives. They put pen to Pro Tools in February 2011, emerging with their first Extended Player, Novella.

The Kickbacks

Never far from a notebook or hand-held recorder, Kickbacks' songwriter, Tad Overbaugh is not one to miss out on capturing a good line or melody when it comes. "I don't count on getting good ideas, so when I get one, I want to remember it", says Overbaugh laughing. The Kickbacks debuted in 1998 with the release of Longitude, and soon after, the Blue Man's Collar EP (2000). The band received favorable reviews from critics for Blindside View (2002) and Motel Stars (2006) for, as one reviewer put it, "songs that ring with depth, authenticity, and plenty of hook-infused power”.

Arbouretum

Dave Heumann lives and works in Baltimore. He has played with The Anomoanon, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Cass McCombs and Papa M. Arbouretum is the first band for which he is the primary songwriter, guitarist, and singer. Heumann’s idea for the band was one whose songs would evoke natural forms and movements as opposed to architectural constructions with rigid forms and linear progressions. Whilst the band’s hard-to-find debut was largely an individual process with players working to articulate Heumann’s vision, Rites of Uncovering is the work of a group.

Saboteur

There are at least six artists/bands named "Saboteur": 1)
Saboteur harkens back to a day in the not too distant past when lyrical intelligence and musical proficiency was not the exception in punk rock. They blend the existing facets of their other musical projects with tough guy pop punk and socio-political lyrics. The songs are loud, well crafted and instantly quotable. Influences range from Gang of Four to Rocket From the Crypt, and they're recommended if you like those bands as well as The Clash, Alkaline Trio and Queens of the Stone Age.

Viarosa

Viarosa's second full length release "Send for the Sea" is an eleven song 'noir opera' that more deeply reveals the mystical vision of UK vocalist-songwriter Richard Neuberg and his bandmate-companions over the past six years. They are experts in roiling guitars, bittersweet viola & screaming lap steel, among the usual rock instrumentation. Viarosa's ability to express themselves in unique ways both lovely & grotesque earned them the fandom of REM, which asked them to open for the mega-band in Dublin at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin.
