Pikelet is a band from Melbourne, initially just the name for solo artist Evelyn Morris (Baseball, True Radical Miracle), who begun playing music in indie and hardcore bands as a drummer and vocalist. After leaving these bands, she started overlapping acoustic guitar, piano accordion, voice and alternative percussion techniques with a looping pedal, and created a handmade demo CD, 'Chair + Lamp', unofficially released in mid-2006, followed by another self-released EP, entitled...
Forming in 2003 this five piece Melbourne band stands strongly under the banner of Australian Hardcore, yet are proud to acknowledge their obvious metal influences. Massive vocals, brutal guitars and a relentless intensity have seen them successfully travel the nation many times with bands like Parkway Drive, Comeback Kid, Most Precious Blood, 50 Lions, Jungle Fever and Terror. In 2005 came the release of their first full length album
Fusing punk, disco and a touch of ‘cock rock’, the Blow Wave’s unique sound has been described as punchy, rocky disco-camp… full of raw attitude. The Blow Waves are; Vocals - Matt Doll, Guitars – Jamie Wave, Keyboards – Byron St John, Bass – John Pants, and Drums – Jezz Beat. Immersed in dirty synths, melodic harmonies, guitar driven riffs and penetrating hooks, The Blow Waves capture their raw stage performance and live reputation with the launch of their self-titled EP on 20 June 2009.
Deaf Wish began in a soggy West Melbourne rehearsal room in May 2007, standing around screaming and bashing through songs with one solid philosophy: ‘go to feedback’ when things fall apart. After a handful of rehearsals, they recorded 10 songs and played 2 shows. Then guitar player Sarah Hardiman flew to the UK and never came back.
Deaf Wish stopped for a year whilst the album was passed around and grew a cult following stemming from punks and spreading around the pubs and yards of Melbourne.
Wolf & Cub are an alternative rock band from Adelaide, Australia that formed in 2002. Three of the original members hail from Port Augusta, South Australia. Their music is predominantly psychedelic with elements of funk. The four-piece are signed to legendary record label 4AD. An interesting aspect of the band's music and aesthetic is their use of two drummers. This allows the percussive elements of their music to feature more prominently alongside the guitar.
http://www.myspace.com/okerametal Okera are a 4-piece Melodic Death / Doom band from Melbourne, Australia. They were founded by Jayme in the later months of 2006, purely as a studio side-project. As time went on, the project became more serious, and in mid 2008, the line-up as it is today was completed. They've been playing gigs around Melbourne since mid 2009, and have shared the stage with other local talents Be'lakor, Arbrynth, Rainshadow, Wood of Suicides, Obsidieth, AMDBL, Orpheus, Envenomed as well as supporting Singapore act Meltgsnow.
Formerly called Jodi Moore as a tribute to an acquaintance who didn't want the honour of seeing her name in the street press, The Stabs acquired their new name not long after starting to play irregular gigs at small Melbourne venues around 2003. They have the honour of clearing the 'Airport Lounge' at Monash Uni faster than any other lunchtime act, with only three diehards ending up braving the wall of noise for the whole set.
The Bites were a 3-piece band from Melbourne, Australia. They formed in 2001 and dissolved in late 2005. The songs are the most important thing. They are short, sharp, state their point and then they stop. Rhythm and melody are equally crucial in The Bites. The nucleus of The Bites are Kirsty and Rene. Other members have come and gone since the band started in 2001. Their philosophy is one of maintaining true independence and complete artistic control over all aspects of their music.
A dark, melodic death metal band from Melbourne, Be'lakor has quickly come to be regarded as one of Australia's most promising and creative metal acts. The band's international reputation has grown rapidly since the release of their 2007 debut, "The Frail Tide," its 2009 follow-up, "Stone's Reach," and most recently, the band's third album, "Of Breath and Bone." 2012 will see Be'lakor return to Europe to play at Germany's Summer Breeze Festival and the Czech Republic's Brutal Assault Festival.
