Hierophant

There are three artists with this name: 1.) Hierophant is very slow, raw and atmospheric funeral doom metal project of Xathagorra Mlandroth - one of the founders of funeral doom itself (with Thergothon, Skepticism, Funeral and others).
The music is always very slow, depressive and weighty (extremely). All tracks are quite primitive, but it can be requited by unique and deep atmosphere of solitude and endless darkness.
Continued by Catacombs.

Bethlehem

Bethlehem is a band from Grevenbroich, Germany, formed in 1991 by Jürgen Bartsch and Kläus Matton. Before begetting Bethlehem, Bartsch and Matton used to play in a German Thrash metal band called Morbid Vision. Much of the themes in their lyrics revolve around sickness, morbidity, suicide, death and madness that may to some extent be personal to the band, though they are very difficult to understand even for German speakers because they make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Ixion

1)Ixion is an atmospheric funeral doom band : Ixion was born in 2004 when Julien Prat started to work on his own compositions. During three years, he writes several tracks from a dark and atmospheric music to a more classical doom metal. Six tracks are finally selected for the first demo, which combines the doom and atmospheric sides, as well as some electronic and symphonic elements.
From that point, Ixion's music can be linked with some funeral doom and gothic/doom metal bands, with a particular work on keyboards and ambient soundscapes.

They released an EP named The Oath in 2005 and a full-length album named The Call Of The Wretched Sea in 2006. The classic novel "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville served as a source of inspiration for their music. On the artwork of the album, the style of the music is described as "Nautic funeral doom".

Ansia

There is more than one artist with this name. 1) Mexican independent band, dark sounds, deep lyrics, great voice. 2) Ansia project was born in Italy due to the will of finding new sounds into the doom scene. The lineup started with Ruben (drums), Steven (guitars) and Ethere (vocals, bass, synth). In the spring of 2006 they begun working in their music, and after a few months the songs I, II, and III were finished, then mixed by Alessio Fagrelli (ex-session keyboards for Deinonychus), who also plays piano on the song I.

Planning for Burial

Following the release of the underrated Leaving (on Enemies List, home of Have A Nice Life) Planning For Burial has been sporadically popping up in live venues (sharing the stage with a wide breadth of musical compatriots from Chelsea Wolfe to Deafheaven while seeming out of place at none) along the east and west coasts and releasing a slew of EPs and splits over the last 3 years (all while writing and recording a mythical second album that has been dangled in front of his obsessive fans as coming soon for almost three years).

Artist Type:

UNHOLY

There are at least three artists with this name. 1) Unholy is a Finnish doom metal band that was considerably influential to funeral doom and atmo death/doom styles. They formed in the late 80s as Holy Hell, and changed their name to Unholy in 1990. They released a few demos and 4 full-length albums. After the second full-length album, the band was briefly broken up. At reformation, the other guitarist left out from line-up. Two more albums were made after that, but in 2002 the final split was to come.

Artist Type:

Skepticism

Finland's Skepticism is one of the pioneers of funeral doom metal. Combining painfully slow Doom/Death Metal styled riffs, solemn keyboards and sparse percussion with deep growling, boundaries were pushed once again. The band uses four instruments: drums, played with felt beaters, keyboards with organ pedals, guitar, and vocals. With this, they create songs that are both within the range of contemporary doom metal in terms of heaviness and slowness, yet far beyond the range of others where atmosphere and sound is considered.
