Pikelet is a band from Melbourne, initially just the name for solo artist Evelyn Morris (Baseball, True Radical Miracle), who begun playing music in indie and hardcore bands as a drummer and vocalist. Cardiff’s Pagan Wanderer Lu is an innovative solo artist on Brainlove Records. His sharp, world-weary, witty lyrics and skronky DIY demos were enough for the label to release several well received EPs across the last few years. Since then he’s been lauded by luminaries such as Huw Stephens, John Kennedy and Bethan Elfyn and received praise from Drowned In Sound, Bearded Magazine, This Is Fake DIY, Artrocker and a legion of blogs and webzines.
The band met touring with previous musical outfits on the hardcore and noise circuit. Having trawled Europe’s countless venues these projects came to what can only now be described as an inevitable end. Spurred on by a mutual disdain for an increasingly shallow medium, the band began writing together in 2007. Wistfully uniting dark melodies, poetic lyrics and group harmonies the band produce an intense and broody brand of pop which reflects their current musical standpoint as well as their vision for the future.
Monster Bobby is best known as the guitarist in The Pipettes' backing band The Cassettes. He also used to front Ice-Nine and also appeared on Chaos and Talking to god about a girl. Monster Bobby is now signed to the New York label Hypnote, with a full-length album Gaps out in 2007. Monster Bobby has also composed the soundtrack for a short film, Hamlet Little.
