The Drones

There are at least 3 Bands named "The Drones": 1) The Drones are a group from Australia that rose to prominence during the early 2000's. Artists that have been said to influence the band include: Neil Young, Bad Brains, Suicide, Green on Red, The Birthday Party, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Nina Simone. Musically the band does not fit easily into conventional rock music categories. While some of their material is based on conventional rock sounds and song structures, they also venture into the noisy, atonal, blues-based music that Tom Waits brought to a wider audience.

The Stabs

Formerly called Jodi Moore as a tribute to an acquaintance who didn't want the honour of seeing her name in the street press, The Stabs acquired their new name not long after starting to play irregular gigs at small Melbourne venues around 2003. They have the honour of clearing the 'Airport Lounge' at Monash Uni faster than any other lunchtime act, with only three diehards ending up braving the wall of noise for the whole set.

Artist Type:

Patrick James

Patrick James grew up in coastal NSW town of Port Macquarie and has always been inspired by lyrically-driven guitar-based music like Bob Dylan and Colin Hay. That said, you can hear touches of Bright Eyes, Damien Rice, Boy And Bear and Fleet Foxes in Patrick’s songwriting, which essentially combines pretty chord progressions, acoustic guitar, a clever ear for harmonies and a charmingly unpretentious singing style with some very poetic and lovely lyrics.
