The Skunks

Busting out of Austin’s country and blues mold in the late ’70s, The Skunks were Austin’s first genuine punk band, playing everything so fast and loud that it cut through the city’s “cosmic cowboy” crap like a rusty straight razor. Led by Jesse Sublett and Eddie Muñoz (also of The Plimsouls), later replaced by acclaimed singer-songwriter Jon Dee Graham, The Skunks regularly opened for the likes of Elvis Costello and The Police before splintering in 1983, leaving behind a legacy that can still be heard in every slash-and-burn Austin group since.

Gandhi's Cookbook

Gandhi's Cookbook is a band consisting of four guys living in Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. We play a mix of punk, ska, and reggae music, we embrace DIY ethic, and we believe that lyrics, ideology, and what one has to say are the most important parts of punk music. We believe in lyrical themes beyond the norm of mediocore watered-down punk bands and 'punx' who sing pointless songs about drinking beer, your 'crew' having your back, starting fights, or blind and ignorant racism/sexism/homophobia.

They also became known for Satanic imagery and numerous references to the vagrant lifestyle, such as crack-smoking, shoplifting, and squatting. Guns, and early Skid Row, as well as some of the early carefree work of both Saigon Kick and Ugly Kid Joe.
