Richard Black

As a young New York based song writer, Rich Black had "A Very Close Friend of Mine" published in Broadside issue 112 in 1971. The song has an anti-drug message that was supported by the editors of Broadside, who criticized rock music and the hippie culture for their pro-drug messages. Sis Cunningham and Gordon Friesen felt that a person who "dropped out" and did drugs was one less person to fight the good fight for social change.

Herman's Hermits

Herman's Hermits was an internationally successful 60s British band, from Manchester, England, formed in 1963. Part of the British Invasion, their trademark simple, non-threatening, clean-cut "boys next door" image made them easier to listen to and more accessible than other British Invasion bands. Their first hit, "I'm Into Something Good", was produced by Mickie Most, reaching #1 in the UK (1963) and #13 in the US (1964). Other hits followed such as "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" (1965) and "I'm Henry VIII, I Am".

They were formed by Charlie Piggott (banjo & melodian), Alec Finn (guitar, bouzouki), Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh (bodhrán)and Frankie Gavin (fiddle)as a result of sessions in Hughes's Pub in Spiddal, County Galway, subsequently inviting Dolores Keane (vocals) to join the band.

Artist Type:

The Deep Dark Woods

The timeless sound of the aptly named "The Deep Dark Woods" belongs to the depressing winters of the north. Pulsing with human warmth, these original songs echo through the lonesome night. Ryan Boldt's plainspoken lyrics offer a strong but gentle tone which understates poetry, oftentimes as startling as hot blood in fresh snow. Despite the dark themes, the heaviness never overwhelms the music's playfulness.

Eugene McGuinness

Eugene McGuinness (born 1986 in London, England) is an alternative rock singer/songwriter/guitarist. He is signed to domino records. After The Early Learnings Of - a mini album of 8 songs - was released to great critical acclaim last year on Domino’s Publishing Label Double Six, Eugene headed to the studio to make his first full album proper for Domino. The result is twelve utterly charming pop tracks, which skip between boundaries with gleeful abandon and an acidic sense of humour.
