Rhombus

There are at least three bands called Rhombus: 1) New Zealand dub-hip-hop-soul-funk-roots-reggae act Rhombus is a collaboration between producers Simon Rycroft and Thomas Voyce and MC Imon Star (Ahmen Mahal, son of blues legend Taj Mahal). Their debut album, 2002's 'Bass Player', also features the vocal talents of MC Mana, MC Rizzla (aka Tiki from Salmonella Dub), MC Antsman, Raashi Malik, and Lotus. 2005's 'Future Reference' added vocalist Lisa Tomlins (EBB) to the ensemble. A third album is due out mid-2007.

The Mutton Birds

The Mutton Birds was formed in 1991 in New Zealand, by Don McGlashan, formerly of Blam Blam Blam (guitar, vocals and euphonium), Ross Burge (drums), David Long (guitar) and Alan Gregg (bass guitar). They scored several hits in New Zealand, including "Nature", "Dominion Road", "Your Window", "Anchor Me" and Blue Öyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" which was featured in the movie "The Frighteners" directed by Peter Jackson.

King Kapisi

Samoan artist King Kapisi aka Bill Urale was the first Polynesian hip-hop artist to receive the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award for Songwriter of the Year for his single Reverse Resistance in 1999. King Kapisi has released three albums, Savage Thoughts (2000) and 2nd Round Testament (2003) and Dominant Species (2005) they were released in Australia with local sales hitting the gold status mark. The award-winning artist was nominated for 13 awards at the 2001 New Zealand B.Net Awards and took home seven of the prizes including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Music Video.

The Brunettes

The Brunettes were formed in Auckland, New Zealand in 1998 by musical couple Jonathan Bree and Heather Mansfield. They were a paradox from the beginning - creating boy/girl melodramatic pop inspired by 70s New York punk and 60s girl groups but surrounded in an Auckland scene of opiate-infused garage rock 'n' roll. David Dallas

David Dallas (born August 28 in Papatoetoe, Auckland) is an award winning New Zealand rapper and producer, formerly known as Con Psy, signed to P-Money's Dirty Records. He released his debut EP Something Now in 2008, and then his debut solo album, Something Awesome, was released in August 2009. His second next album, The Rose Tint, was released in May 2011 and featured appearances from Freddie Gibbs, PNC and Buckshot. He is also half of the award winning duo Frontline, who were the recipients of the New Zealand Music Awards Best Hip Hop Album award in 2006 for their album Borrowed Time.

There are multiple artists with this name: 1) Pronounced "Un-Double Neuf-Cinq" (One double nine Five). A French hip-hop group from the Paris Suburb (Montrouge 92). Composed of 6 members: Nekfeu (or Fennek), Alpha Wann (or Phaal), Sneazzy, areno Jaz, Fonky Flav' and Dj Lo. It is part of the collective "L'Entourage". 2) 1995 are a Darkwave Pop band from Auckland, New Zealand, consisting of 5 members; Adrian Bird (Guitar/BV), Matt Offord (Vocals/Keys), Dave Provan (Guitar), Jordan Puryer (Drums/BV) and Chris Washer (Bass). Formed in Auckland, 2007.

This blistering instrumental three-piece from the hinterlands of Auckland, New Zealand has enchanted audiences with its rhythmic onslaught since 2006.
Described variously as “lead-heavy” with “sparse and beautiful” moments, the trio have carved out a unique brand of dark rock that is scattered with melodic hooks. Their catchy, sometimes ambient brand of molten-core will appeal to fans of Swans and Bailterspace, but discerning listeners will know the trio peddle a uniquely atmospheric take on angular rock.

The Chills

The Chills story is as much the story of Martin Phillipps. The group was dogged by an ever changing line up, with Phillipps being the only permanent member. At times it seemed that the end of The Chills had finally arrived but Phillipps' strong motivation and ambition for success wouldn't allow this. The Chills achieved the success they deserved and were one of the top bands to emerge from New Zealand.

The Nomad

New Zealand producer Daimon Schwalger has released music under the name The Nomad for many years. The first album Movement was drum'n'bass, but subsequent releases have been releases with (obligatory in New Zealand) influences. Prior to his solo project he was performing drum'n'bass as part of trio Locust with Pearl Runga (sister of Bic Runga) and Ryan Smith (aka The Silversmith). They had no official releases.
