Voltaire

There are multiple artists called Voltaire: 1. Voltaire (born 1967 in Havana, Cuba) is a singer/songwriter whose music has its roots deeply embedded in European folk music, but also has influences from the gothic scene. He has also been directing commercials and animating short films for ten years, and is best known for his Hieronymus Bosch-inspired station IDs for MTV. Inspired by the films of Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad), Voltaire began animating at the age of ten on a super8 camera.

The Bad Things

Bubbling forth like a mossy belch of polka filth from the greasy, jet fuel-contaminated wetlands of the Northwest, comes The Bad Things. With junkyard waltzes and shameless shanties, The Bad Things are hellbent on providing traditional music for the post-apocalyptic era. "Combining elements of Gypsy, folk, Klezmer, Hillbilly ballads, mariachi crooners, and a Vaudeville theatrical aesthetic, the group has a reputation for drunken debauchery and feverish dancing at their live shows.....The group lends their old-fashioned style with a post-modern sense of black humor."

Freaks Outing

Freaks Outing specialise in recording outrageous comedy songs that are written and performed from the perspective of gross caricatures. Each song has its own musical and production style, each "performer" a back story. Richard Lilley plays keyboards, programs, produces and plays the roles of all the characters. Elliot J. Huntley plays bass, guitar, mandolin and is a veteran stand up comedian. Live they perform as a spectacular two man comedy show.

naseby fox

Once, during a particularly heavy thunderstorm, I was crawling through the attic of my family home, trying to get close to the lightning, when I found an old wooden box full of items that a distant ancestor had collected over the years. Of particular interest to me was his collection of self written vaudeville songs that he performed with his wife during their canary taming act. These songs, a little changed, tweaked and updated, now form the basis of my repertoire that I feel dutifully bound to play and sing, and in so doing, promote my old ancestor's artistic output.

Artist Type:

Birdeatsbaby

Brighton based Birdeatsbaby formed sometime in 2006 with the intention of breaking away from current musical trends. This piano driven female fronted cabaret rock band, with the unusual addition of a string section, creates a sound impossible to pigeon hole, but recent live reviews have included 'a female divine comedy with behavioral problems '. Live shows are theatrical, highly entertaining, frightening but fragile, with brutally honest and witty lyrics.

Artist Type:

Meow Meow

There are more than one artist who go by the name "Meow Meow." 1) Shortwave radio squeals, Beatles-esque tape loops and healthy doses of analog knob-twiddling all underscore the pure-sugar pop tones of Snow Gas Bones. Meow Meow exists somewhere between Brill Building tradition and grandpa's pre-war 78 rpms played with a broken stylus. With hypnotic visual projections, all members sharing vocal duties and swapping instruments, they've brought their kaleidoscopic live shows up the west coast, down to SXSW and soon to the UK and Japan.

Carach Angren

Carach Angren is a band from the Netherlands, formed by two members of Vaultage. Their style is characterised by prominent use of orchestral arrangements. All of their studio albums are concept albums with lyrics based on famous ghost stories, such as the Flying Dutchman.
