The Hours

There are many places this biography of The Hours could begin. It could begin in Sheffield, England at the tail end of punk, where a ten-year old Antony Genn is standing at the stage door of The Top Rank waiting for The Clash to turn up so he can grab Joe Strummer's autograph. Then again, it could begin over a decade later as the same Antony Genn settles into a swivel chair and clocks in for his first day producing Joe Strummer's solo album.

Comet Gain is a British indie rock band with heavy influences from Dexys Midnight Runners and northern soul. The band includes ex-Huggy Bear bass player Jon Slade and included future Velocette members Sarah Bleach and Jax Coombes.
Comet Gain was started in David Feck's bedroom in Oxford, United Kingdom in 1992. He roped in housemate Phil Sutton, (who went by the ridiculous moniker Hoffner Burns) to play drums, and then persuaded Sarah Bleach and Jax Coombes, who lived round the corner to join.

POOH STICKS

The Pooh Sticks were an indie pop band, from Swansea, Wales recording between 1988 and 1995. They were notable for their jangly melodiousness and lyrics gently mocking the indie scene of the time such as on On Tape, Indie-Pop Ain't Noise Pollution and I Know Someone Who Knows Someone Who Knows Alan McGee Quite Well. The band changed direction on their 1991 U.S breakthrough The Great White Wonder, eschewing the 'twee' British indie pop sound for a more American-styled Power Pop sound, akin to bands like Jellyfish and Redd Kross.

Artist Type:

Luke Haines

Formerly of mid 90s electro-indie bands The Auteurs and Black Box Recorder, this legendary front man has gone solo with a hip-hop/pop pastiche sound to play to a well establised following of fans. Relentlessly highbrow, Haines's dark-but-mischievous lyrics typically fall into three groups: musings on obscure Anglicana (The Mitford Sisters, Freddie Mills is Dead), bitter attacks on modern society, particularly the arts (The Death of Sarah Lucas, Christ) and twisted 1970s anti-nostalgia (Leeds United, Here's to Old England) - with the odd dash of self-aggrandisement thrown in for good measure.
