Aleksandra Kwasniewska

The Polish Folk Jazz project was created by the Polish singer Ola Kwasniewska and the Belgian saxophone player John Snauwaert in 2004. They were accompanied for this project by some of the finest Belgian musicians: Christian Mendoza on the piano, Giovanni Barcella on drums and Koen Kimpe on double bass. The Polish Folk Jazz project introduced us to Slavonic melodies, flavours of modern jazz harmonies and energetic rhythms. All songs were arranged by John Snauwaert.

Their friend and mentor trumpeter Tomasz Stańko has said, “In the entire history of Polish jazz we've never had a band like this one. They just keep getting better and better.” It was through Stańko's ECM recording Soul of Things, recorded 2001, that the wider world first had a hint of the capacity of Wasilewski/Kurkiewicz/Miskiewicz.

Marcin Masecki

From Marcin's website:
www.marcinmasecki.com I was born in Warsaw in 1982. When I was six months old I moved with my parents to Popayan, Colombia. My father, a clarinetist, started teaching me simple harmony, rhythm and singing when I was three. At the age of seven I moved with my mother to San Fransisco where I began taking piano lessons. A year later I moved back to Poland and continued studies with my grandmother - one of the best piano teachers I know. Since I was seen improvising little melodies here and there I was also sent to my first jazz piano teacher, Jurek Kossacz.
