John Cooper Clarke (born January 25, 1949) is a performance poet from Salford, Greater Manchester , England, affectionately known as the Bard of Salford. He is often referred to as a punk poet, having initially achieved recognition in the late 1970s amidst the flourishing punk movement. His recorded output has mainly centred around musical backing The Invisible Girls, featuring Martin Hannett, Pete Shelley, Bill Nelson and Steve Hopkins. The song "Evidently Chickentown" became known to a wide audience through its use in the final season of the TV show The Sopranos

The 99s

It was the Whit weekend 2007 in Saddleworth, England; two young men in their early 20s dressed in stolen sheep costumes decided to have a wrestle and the outcome - The 99s. The first month was spent writing a set, practicing and recording demos. James and Johnny instantly formed a good songwriting partnership and Adams van had three seats - it was perfect. MUTV hailed the band as their favourite act of 2008 as voted by the public, and the band were soon filmed playing a live session and interview at Manchester’s XFM with the legendary Clint Boon.

The Freshies

The Freshies is the name of a band from Manchester, England formed in the mid 1970's. Their first single, The Freshies EP, was released in 1978 on the RAZZ record label. Their biggest selling and best known song is 1980's "I'm In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk" renamed as "I'm In Love With The Girl On A Certain Manchester Megastore Checkout Desk" on request from Virgin Records, which reached number 54 in the UK charts in 1981.
