The Brotherhood

The Brotherhood were UK Hip Hop's big hitters in the mid-90's. Originally released as founding artists on the Bite It! label they were later signed to Virgin. They released a number of 12" singles, EP's and mini albums, with the main album 'Elementalz' being released by Virgin to critical acclaim, but low levels of sales. They split with Virgin after a turbulent label experience and the death of their manager Marts Androps (who was also the manager of Roger Sanchez).

Shorty

There are 6 artists with the name Shorty. (1) Shorty was officially born in 1991 under the guise of vocalist Al Johnson and guitarist Mark Shippy. Along with drummer Todd Lamparelli and bassist Luke Frantom, they released three singles and two albums.
The group became Shorty and decided to officially keep the moniker in September. Atlanta, GA, label Worry Bird released the band's first 7", Last One in My Mouth Is a Jerk, late that year.

Skinnyman

Skinnyman (born Alex Holland) is a rapper born in Leeds, who moved to Finsbury Park, London at a young age. He formed the seminal Mud Family alongside Mongo and Chester P with whom he released a number of EPs. These included such underground hits as Itchy Town and Lash Suttin, a reworking of Redman's Smash Something. After a period of incarceration for dealing marijuana and the collapse of a record deal with Talkin' Loud/Def Jam UK, Skinnyman released his much delayed solo album, Council Estate of Mind, through Lowlife Records in 2004.

Welcome to Newham Generals: a grime trio so hype, Dizzee Rascal signed them personally. Rolling in from Newham - the baddest borough in east London - the Generals are producer-MCs D Double E, Footsie and Monkey. Signed to the Raskitt's Dirtee Stank label, they represent a new era in the expansion of the UK street sound known as grime. Want proof? Check their mixtape, "Welcome to Newham Vol 1" produced in conjunction with underground dons Lord of the Decks. And if you can wait long enough until Dizzee's third album, you'll find Newham General productions on there too.

Professor Green

Professor Green is a rapper from East London, currently signed to Virgin Records, after Mike Skinner's The Beats label closed, and ended a run of his own radio shows on BBC Radio 1. Having fortified his name storming through the hip-hop battle rap circuit, 23 year old East London native Professor Green is set to drop his debut album on Mike Skinner's The Beats label (via Warner's). Growing up on the Northwold estate in Upper Clapton, Green's familial situation saw him being raised by his grandmother while he traded up school attendance for just hanging on the estate, like kids do.

Task Force

1) These two brothers from Highbury Estate in North London form one of the bigger names in UK Hip-Hop. Chester P and Farma G are the two emcees you'll hear on their series of albums entitled 'Music from the Corner' (aka MFTC), currently in its 4th incarnation. The two work closely with DJ Louis Slipperz and others such as young artist remus (10 years old when he first appeared on a Task Force album). The music is known for its dark production and melancholic themes, accompanied by intricate lyrics.
