Balam Acab is the musical project of 21 year old Pennsylvania, USA native Alec Koone. Balam Acab's contributions fit squarely into the contemporary witch house canon made popular by bands such as Purity Ring and Salem. Forming tracks consisting mainly of arpeggiated riffs and synthesized beats layered over obscure, distorted samples alluding to classic animated films, Balam Acab creates a dream world worthy of its nostalgic references.
A one man band producing home recordings since 2008, played on mainly acoustic instruments. Influences are mainly 70's children's TV music and 80's indie with a bit o' folk thrown in for good measure. Original material is created by taking a riff or theme for a stroll; it can detour to some surprising places.
Thanks for listening..
Started about eight years ago as an acoustic based side-project between two friends who wished for a more minimalist distraction from their main musical endeavours, subzar (an approximate acronym of "somewhere between the zenith and ruin") has recently evolved into a quartet that has taken on a life of its own. From the formulaic post-rock equation, drums have been banished while violin and cello warmly welcome - elevating the humble foundation to an - at times - pseudo-classical proposition that strives to encourage the listener to join its visceral and affecting musical journey.
