Sun Kil Moon

Sun Kil Moon is the current project of Mark Kozelek, best known for his previous band, Red House Painters. Sun Kil Moon sees Kozelek undertake all the writing, composing, singing and guitar playing accompanied by Tim Mooney and Anthony Koutsos (also an ex-member of RHP) on drums, and Geoff Stanfield on bass. The band is named after bantamweight boxer Moon Sung-Kil. Their debut album, Ghosts of the Great Highway, was written entirely by Kozelek, and released by Jetset Records in 2003.

Early Songs

Early Songs is the pseudonym of sole member and multi-instrumentalist, David Scott. After scoring several short films in 2003, David began making his own instrumental, guitar-based music. Stirred from sleep by the finger-style guitar of Mississippi John Hurt, the many marvelous sounds of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra and the places visited by the Dirty Three, Early Songs awoke one morning in 2004 to begin its own journey. The first fruit of these travels is "Wind Wound", a self-recorded album that is set for a mid-year release on Preservation - a label from Sydney, Australia.

Clogs

Clogs are a mostly instrumental project led by Bryce Dessner and Australia's Padma Newsome, both men familiar from their membership in the acclaimed rock band, The National. But don't call Clogs a side project. Their existence predates The National, and Clogs have released four widely acclaimed albums -- a highly melodic debut Thom's Night Out (Brassland 2001), then the experimental polyphonies of Lullaby For Sue (Brassland 2003), the minimalist explorations of Stick Music (Brassland 2004), and 2005's Lantern (Brassland).

Cian Nugent

Cian Nugent is an 18 year old exploratory guitarist from Dublin Ireland whose playing is rooted in pre-war blues, Appalachian string bands and the Takoma tradition.
Fahey is referenced quite a bit on this recording, but Cian is no mere Fahey imitator. He uses the style as a starting point for his compositions and creates something highly personal within these limitations.
His take on the traditional Wagoners lad is refreshing and surprising in its abstraction and obvious love for the Buell Kazee version.
