Forming in Brisbane in 2003, The Gin Club casually coagulated around a regular open mic night held in a Brisbane pub. Originally based on a fairly elastic lineup, the band has stabilized but it is still a large ensemble with seven songwriters. Winning one day of recording time through a cancer fundraiser at Brisbane club The Troubadour enabled The Gin Club to record their first album. In the early-1990s, he had a successful string of Country hits. Once infamous for his flamboyantly hedonist party image, he is now a born again Christian and records both Country and Gospel music. He is known for wearing rhinestone-studded "Nudie suits" onstage, but after the passing of his friend Johnny Cash he now wears black in his honor.

Formed in 1992 as the Furnace Mountain Boys, this Virginia band plays old-style Appalachian folk and bluegrass music with new-style roots sensibilities. Their Shack Album, released on Frogville as Furnace Mountain with Aimee Curl, is a mix of original and traditional music with some Dylan and Yeats thrown in for fun. Furnace Mountain consists of Dave Van Deventer on Fiddle and Vocals, Morgan Morrison on Bouzouki and Vocals, Aimee Curl on Bass and Vocals, Danny Knicely on Mandolin, and includes transient members Zach Lester or Bodhran, and John Flower on Washtub.
Freedy Johnston (born 1961) is a New York City-based singer-songwriter originally from Kinsley, Kansas. Johnston's first album, "The Trouble Tree" was released in 1990, and features the guitar playing of the roots musician and author, David Hamburger. Johnston sold some of his family's farmland to finance the recording of his second album, Can You Fly (an event he wrote about in a song on that album, "Trying to Tell You I Don't Know").
