Wonkavision

Wonkavision is an indie rock band with loads of moogs, power guitars and vocal harmonies a la 60s. Firstly inspired by the north-american band The Rentals, Wonkavision is mostly characterised by the contrast between the sweetness of their melodies and the sarcasm of their lyrics.
Their debut album Wonkainvasion was released in 2004 in Brazil, and won a national award for the best indie rock album that year. In 2007, Wonkavision signed with the Tokyo based label PowerPop Academy and released an English version of the same album in Japan.

Plainsong

Plainsong was formed by Ian Matthews (previously in Fairport Convention) in 1972 with Andy Roberts, Bob Ronga, and Dave Richards. In Search of Amelia Earhart was released the same year with relatively poor sales. However the critical response was largley positive. Their follow-up, Plainsong III was more country orientated. During its production, Ronga quit and Matthews and Richards were unable to agree on future direction. They disbanded before the album's completion. Ithaca

Around the late 60's/early 70's, this English folk-prog trio released four similar albums under four different band names: Alice Through The Looking Glass, TOMORROW COME SOME DAY, Agincourt and finally Ithaca. Ithaca's music is a combination of pastoral folk rock, psychedelia and progressive rock with gentle male/female vocal interplay. Their style is dreamy, very laid back and flows in a breezy, unassuming fashion. Lee Menelaus in particular, the female vocalist, projects a sweet (very sweet) serene tone yet not at all sappy.

Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens

Delicate tunes that float and dance in the air, sung by a girl with a voice which varies from a seductive whisper to a desperate cry. Melodic guitars and a rhythm section which, if it chooses, can produce an energy which mesmerizes you, whitens your knuckles as they cling to your seat, only to drop you into a pool of calm, your heart still pounding in your chest. Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens started 18 months ago with just Julia and Yo (Johanna) stuffing around in music class during grade 12.
