Faiz Ali Faiz (born 1962 in Sharaqpur, Pakistan) is one of the main singers of qawwali, a devotional musical expression of the Sufis, a mystical offshoot of Islam. Faiz Ali Faiz comes from a family of qawwals from seven generations in Pakistan. He started his professional career in 1978, at age 16, creating at the same time his own qawwali ensemble. Though Faiz is from Lahore, he practices the doaba style from eastern Pakistan. He stated in recent interviews he has been influenced by Sham-Chaurasi, a famous Khayal singing school where Ustad Salamat Ali Khan belongs to.
Shezar (band) was born in the beginning of the year 2000. musicians from different cultures (syria, norway, france) gathered for a common project. shezar developed an original style based on oriental rhythms and modes, open for inspirations from jazz, with melodies composed by kjetil selvik and hassan abdelrahman. - we do not seek the fusion of different cultures by music nor even some kind of mixing.
Yair Dalal (born 1955) is a composer, violinist and oud player and is probably the most prolific Israeli ethnic musician today, with global recognition (WOMAD appearances from Seattle to Sydney).
Over the last decade he has put nine albums, covering wide and varied cultural territory. Much of Dalal's output reflects the strong affinity he has for the desert and its habitants. Dalal's family came to Israel from Baghdad and he has included much Iraqi material in his work to date.
Flamingods is a four piece multi-instrumental experimental band founded by Kamal Rasool in late 2009 as a bedroom project. Their sound has been described as ethnic pop, with elements of noise, tribal and freak folk. They use a vast array of percussion instruments and loop pedals, often in unorthodox ways. They are based in London, UK. Flamingods have released one self-recorded album entitled 'Waves Waves Waves Waves Waves' and a joint summer EP with Cabaret Scene. Rasool is currently writing and finalizing material for the next Flamingods album entitled 'Sun'.
