Papermoons

Houston duo Matt Clark and Daniel Hawkins are Papermoons and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind being referred to as beautiful, winsome, front-porch folk rock. It’s the stuff of reflective midnight drives or lazy summer afternoons collapsing under the inevitable weight of dusk. The band’s debut four-song 7” (featuring artwork by jacob calle) was released July 1st on Team Science Records. The record has since been met with critical acclaim.

Billy Mahonie

Billy Mahonie is a rock band and not an Irish folk singer. Formed in London in the autumn of 1997 they play instrumental rock music. Although lumped in with the numerous jazz beard wearing post rock bands of the late 90’s, Billy Mahonie did much more than gaze at their collective navels and noodle around some horridly lame progressive jazz riff for a half hour. Mahonie’s music is indeed infused with elements of heavy rock, hardcore punk, jazz and folk but the emphasis is defiantly squared on ROCK and cathartic emotive and super energetic guitar music.

Prinzhorn Dance School

Prinzhorn Dance School are Tobin Prinz and Suzi Horn. Their music is sparse, uncompromising and idiosyncratic. They are signed to the New York record label DFA. Their debut release for the label was a self recorded and self produced 7-inch single featuring the tracks "You Are The Space Invader" and "Eat, Sleep" which is now highly sought after as it was limited to 500 copies only. Prinz and Horn recorded their debut album in isolation, in a rented barn in Sussex, having already written the songs in the disused chapel building they call home, also entirely on their own.

Hot Panda

Formed in January 2006, Hot Panda hails from Edmonton, Canada, and was formed after Chris Connelly and Maghan Campbell returned from living abroad in Oslo, Norway. Invigorated by the Scandinavian music scene, the two snatched up Mike Robertson and Keith Olsen and started producing their rowdy mash-up between the UK's pop-loving supergrass, the rawness of Iggy Pop, and the gritty danciness of Ukraine's Gogol Bordello.

Aestrid

"...Aestrid's music is often linked to Scandinavia because of the places and images that get stuck in his head..." Founding member Bo Menning delivers a sound that could be catagorised as something like Indie music. Songs patched together by many different sounds, picked carefully and each placed in the right puzzle. Creating something intense and emotional with melodies flying around like sparks.
