Bad Ass Brass Band
The Hackney Colliery Band
Hackney Colliery Band is a nine-piece brass band usually found playing hip-hop and 'brass funk', or venturing into the sound worlds of Ska and Balkan Beats... Collectively run, the project has several composers and arrangers, and the HCB sound is a collaboration between all the musicians involved. We play tunes by MF Doom, Blackstreet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozomatli, Minnie Riperton, Justin Timberlake, Toto, Notorious BIG and Twista, as well as originals by our band members.
Black Dyke Band
In 1816 a brass and reed band was founded by Peter Wharton in the Yorkshire village of Queenshead, later to become Queensbury. John Foster, apart from being the founder of Black Dyke Mills, played French Horn in this band. It has been said on many occasions that Black Dyke was formed from it, however this is not strictly true, as "Peter Wharton’s band went out of existence through loss of members".
Brasstronaut
Like their hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, Brasstronaut is hard to pin down. Their debut album, Mt. Chimaera, possesses qualities of the fjord-flanked city's unpredictable character. Since forming in 2007, Brasstronaut has steadily acquired the hands necessary to fuse a diverse range of genres and this follow-up to their Old World Lies EP represents the first statement by the band's definitive six-piece line-up. Vocalist and keyboardist Edo Van Breemen is joined by a roster fluent in trumpet, lap steel, flugelhorn and the seldom-heard EWI (a wind synthesizer), among others.
Labrassbanda
The five musicians in LaBrassBanda are from Southern Germany but the band clearly has a taste for much else than sauerkraut, sausage and heavy Weissbeer. Their music is a wild tapestry of musical impressions from all corners of the world. LaBrassBanda play all out on trumpet, tuba and trombone so that even the Tyrolese hats on the back row fly off. It is difficult to find a more effective mix of wedding music, Mexican mariachi, ska and Tyrolese polka either north or south of the Alps.
A Is For Ape
Hailing from Nottingham, A is for Ape formed in 2003 intent on creating a sound worthy of their stage filling presence. They moved for 2 years to Sheffield where they went through a succession of members before returning to notts in 2006 with a steady lineup. The original lineup has been through many changes since with only 3 remaining Nick (guitar/vocals), Simon (saxaphone) and John (trombone) have since been joined by Ben (drums), Oli (bass), Wolf (trumpet) and Ross (guitar)
arrowcat
Ska done right. Cut the foreplay, jump straight into the rock-solid edge of arrowcat whilst we force-feed hooks and harmonies into your soul. So danceable it'll make your feet bleed, so loud it'll turn your brain to soup. And not some bullshit value pea & mint soup. We're talking full-on olde-style west-country double-strength double-barrel meat broth, with extra BALLS*. Get up and move, arrowcat are HERE!
Molotow Brass Orkestar
Combine swiss folk songs with a kletzmer or balkan brass playing style and add a little bit of ska to get the unique sound of the Molotow Brass Orkestar. The band was founded in fall 2007, when 6 friends - who all happened to study music in Bern - sat together and started to rediscover songs they knew from their childhood. Molotow Brass Orkestar unifies east and west. Its music is a declaration of love to folk music in Switzerland and eastern Europe.
