Barb Wire Dolls - Youtube Punk's not dead and it never went away. It has been pushed underground for decades by the media because it speaks of the truth and exposes hypocrisy, but with the political climate of the world rapidly changing, a new female oriented punk resurgence has created a movement across the globe from Russia with Pussy Riot to countless others. One band in particular is shaking things up with intense live shows and are about to release their debut album.
Lois
Having picked up a second-hand guitar in 1985, and learning from Calvin Johnson, Lois Maffeo's first band was Lumihoops, with Sharon Berman and Jan Brock. They only played live once, at the Smithfield Cafe, but can be heard on the Yoyo Recordings compilation Throw.
Her second band, The Cradle Robbers, was formed with future The Spinanes member Rebecca Gates. They released one track on the compilation Red Hot + Bothered/Indie Rock Guide To Dating before disbanding.
Dogtown
From the muddy banks of the River Medway, Dogtown was formed in 2010 creating a sound that is like being violated by a length of splintered 2 by 2 with nails in it; but in a good way. Since that time they have steadily created a fan base in which they want to breakdown the barrier between audience and band with members often jumping down from the stage whilst performing into the crowd at gigs, and encouraging audience members on to the stage.
