Peter Astor

Peter Astor is a British singer and multi-intrumentalist, best known for his work with The Weather Prophets and Ellis Island Sound. Following the sensational disbandment of his first band The Loft and the subsequent dissolution of The Weather Prophets, singer and guitarist Peter Astor embarked upon a solo career. His close links with Alan McGee helped to secure a contract with Creation Records, with whom he released two albums - Submarine (1990) and Zoo (1991).

Many of the oldies on this list would probably tell you the band was often brilliant ("Somebody Up There Likes Me" is regarded by at least a few of us as one of the best indiepop albums ever made), but had their moments of poo-wallowing as well (1990's "Hooked" LP is surely one of the worst...

At long last a band is being recognised for the influence it has had without the commercial acclaim that some of their songs deserved.
This seminal Bristol band consisted of a nucleus of Chris Galvin (bass) and David Woodward (vocals and guitars) with Bob Morris (drums) plus various others during their ten years of existence.
Through various styles they created a unique Bristol slant on the 80's which was never deemed glamorous by the press or music gliterrati in general. Some may say that the Bristol scene was insular but it was really about being yourself and getting on with things.

Tracey Thorn (born September 26, 1962, in Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire) is an English pop singer and songwriter. She is best known as being one half of the duo Everything But the Girl. She grew up in Hatfield, Hertfordshire and studied English at the University of Hull, where she graduated in 1984 with First Class Honours. She lives with her EBTG partner Ben Watt in North London. The couple have twin daughters born in 1998, and a son born in 2001.
