Following the death of Ritchie Valens, Montez became one of the leading rockers of the Hispanic community of Los Angeles, California. Born Ezekiel Christopher Montanez in Los Angeles, California, Montez was brought up in Hawthorne, California.

The Belgian synthpop group Telex was formed in 1978 by Marc Moulin, Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers, with the intention of "Making something really European, different from rock, without guitar - and the idea was electronic music."
