Mangoes sprouting in the tundra. The new face of Latin soul thriving in a hamlet a day’s drive north of Vancouver, British Columbia. This is the story of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Alex Cuba, who came into his musical own in the Canadian north and whose Cuban soul rock power trio flies in the face of conventional notions of what Latin music can be: gentle, hip, wry, and uplifting, with a twist of funk where Marvin Gaye meets Jaco Pastorius.

Sylvia

There are three different Sylvias who recorded under this name: SYLVIA Robinson ("Pillow Talk") is the founder of SUGARHILL RECORDS and a R&B singer (70s). SYLVIA Kirby ("Drifter", "Nobody") is a successful country singer (80s) and SYLVIA Vrethammar is a popular vocalist from Sweden who made it big with an English version of "Y Viva Espana".

Madredeus

Madredeus is a Portuguese band whose music combines fado influences with modern folk music. The band's founding members were Pedro Ayres Magalhães (Classical guitar), Rodrigo Leão (keyboard synthesizer), Francisco Ribeiro (cello) and Teresa Salgueiro (vocals). Magalhães and Leão formed the band in 1985, Ribeiro joined in 1986. They'd been searching for a female singer, and found Teresa Salgueiro in one of Lisbon's night clubs. Teresa liked their music and agreed to join, so in 1987 Madredeus recorded their first album, Os dias da Madredeus.
