Morbid Angel is a Tampa, Florida, United States-based death metal band assembled in 1984. They, along with Deicide, Death, Possessed, Autopsy, Suffocation, Obituary, Massacre and a handful of others were crucial in the development of the death metal genre and its standards. Their songs are complex in arrangement, owing to the considerable technical skills of both guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval (who also played in the grindcore/death metal band Terrorizer).
Malignancy plays very intense, crushing brutal death metal out of Yonkers, NY (US) and are known for their seamless variations between hyper-technical riffing and unsurpassable NYDM style breakdowns. With each release, Malignancy increases speed, technicality, eccentric intensity and originality.
Pestilence is a death metal band from the Netherlands founded in 1986. Later they incorporated more jazz and fusion elements into their music. They released four albums before disbanding in order to pursue other musical directions in 1994. Pestilence has recently reformed, and are working on a new album. Pestilence started in the Netherlands in mid 1986 as a thrash metal band. The lineup, consisting of Patrick Mameli (guitar, vocals), Randy Meinhard (guitar), and Marco Foddis (drums), recorded two demos before gaining the attention of Roadrunner Records.

Putrefaction was a side project of Grave sometimes around 1989. But the songs were shortly after integrated in the Grave set and so the project was ended. (Copied from Metal Archives) Putrefaction is also a heavy crust band from Ireland and a death metal band from Brazil.
Not to be confused with the Black Metal band Resurrection from Los Angeles. Resurrection split up in 1996 and reformed by 2005. Before they split up, there was plans for an album called "Forever Embalmed" that would include four live tracks, both demos prior to the debut and the tracks from the demo released after the debut album.

Vital Remains is a blackened death metal band from Rhode Island, USA formed in 1989. Influenced by the likes of Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Sodom and Destruction. Originally comprised of guitarists Paul Flynn and Tony Lazaro, vocalist Jeff Gruslin, bassist Tom Supkow, and drummer Chris Dupont, the group has been through several line-up changes and record labels over the years. A pair of demos (1989's "Reduced to Ashes" and 1990's "Excruciating Pain") led to a contract with French label Thrash Records, who in turn released "The Black Mass" in 1991.
