Ship Of Fools

There have been several bands with this name. It is worth mentioning that the "Demo" featured here is by a totally different outfit from the one the rest of this entry refers to. Fantasy obsessed and deep into the neo-prog scene of the early '90s, few bands were as self-consciously weird and engaging as Ship of Fools. Formed in 1992, the band consisted of guitarist Andy Banks, the creatively nicknamed bassist Sputnik, keyboardists Damien Clarke and Les Smith, and drummer Mick Reed.

Marshan

In 2005 Glasgow became highlighted on the global musical map. Franz Ferdinand and Sons and Daughters were staples of all the "important" music magazines, and previously established acts such as Travis and even Hue and Cry were dusting themselves down for the ensuing media frenzy. The city became a hotbed for the new art rock movement, where fashion, imagery and music meet to produce the new musical vision, albeit via some well worn Gang of Four and Roxy Music records.

Artist Type:

Lumerians

Distorted clouds of organ, synth, and vibraphone churn above hypnagogic waves of percussion and bass. Referencing psych and prog without the use of guitars, Lumerians create cinematic rock music that is warm, dark, organic and non-retro. Male and female vocals propel songs forward without eclipsing the chimeric ambience of the music. Parallels could be made to the ominous soundscapes of Ennio Morricone, the propulsive rhythms of Can, and the hypnotic oscillations of Silver Apples.
