Emmanuel sings in Spanish. His songs are usually love songs known as ballads, which became popular during the 1960s. The bulk of his hit ballads is comprised of compositions by the prestigious Spaniard Manuel Alejandro. A ballad differs from a bolero, which was a popular style of love song in Spanish-speaking nations during the 1940s and 1950s.

With nearly 70 million recordings sold worldwide, she is the most successful English solo female recording artist to date. Perhaps best known for her massive hit 'Downtown' and whilst being English, Petula's work was heavily French-influenced.In the 1950s, she later was to branch out to become a major success in much of Europe. McDonald played in several local bands (such as Mike and the Majestics, Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, the Reebtoors, and The Guild) while attending McCluer High School in his hometown of Ferguson, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.
