Darren Hayman

Essex-born Darren Hayman is a singer/songwriter who releases albums as a solo artist, but he is best known as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the UK indie band Hefner. Hayman formed Hefner in 1992 in Kent along with fellow art-school student Antony Harding (later a.k.a. ANT), who played the drums. Moving to London and joining up with John Morrison (bass) and later Jack Hayter (multi-instrumentalist) they started to perform live from 1995, and from '97 they released four studio albums (plus one b-side collection, a live album and a compilation) before splitting up in 2002.

The French

The French is a synth duo formed by Darren Hayman and John Morrison, both formerly of Hefner. The French developed the more electronic sound present on Hefner's last album: Dead Media. They have released one full length album called Local Information, an EP called Dagenham and a double a-side single called Gabriel In the Airport/Porn Shoes in the years 2003-2004.

Jack Hayter

Jack Hayter was part of Spongefinger who produced 2 albums between 96 and 99. Hayter was also a guitarist/multi instrumental bloke in Hefner with Darren Hayman, Ant and John Morrison, although he's not on the very first album. Practical Wireless is a solo effort produced by Darren Hayman with odd contributions from other Hefner members. He also crops up playing mostly pedal steel guitar on records by The Bittersprings,Dollboy, Silver Ginger 5, Tram.
