David Thomas Broughton

David Thomas Broughton's off-kilter folk is all about the slow-burn; coaxing melodies and oddly gorgeous vocals from a shuffling music box of acoustic guitars, looping pedals and bargain-bin drum machines. The result is (predictably) tooth-achingly gorgeous. He has been unceremoniously dumped into the 'freak-folk' enclosure and in doing so shows up the meagre offerings traditionally proffered under this soft-centered appellation. Taking handsome dollops of Nick Drake, John Fahey and Antony and the Johnsons, Broughton's quixotic touch is writ large above all his compositions.

The Light Streams

The Light Streams formed through 2008 through a series of late night conversations and suggestion, each member being invited into the fray well into the night, the band then sought to seek a daytime arrangement that worked as well. Towards the end of the year demos were made and in early 2009 dates were set to go put them down properly, the band was launched upon hearing the record back. Brought together through a camaraderie, an odd sense of humour and a love of a cross of music that sways between psychedelia, pop, rock and roll and back again.
