BBC Big Band

The BBC Big Band, originally known as the BBC Radio Big Band is a British big band run under the auspices of the BBC. Widely regarded as the UK’s leading and most versatile jazz orchestra, the band broadcasts exclusively on BBC Radio, particularly on BBC Radio 2's long running series Big Band Special. It consists of professional jazz musicians and is directed by a number of conductors. These include arranger and composer Barry Forgie, who has been the band's Musical Director since 1977, American jazz trombonist Jiggs Whigham and guest musical directors.

Bob James

Bob James (born December 25, 1939) is a two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz keyboardist. Though he has recorded a couple of straight jazz albums, most of his recordings contain "pop-jazz" which is a type of instrumental pop music. Bob James was an important figure in turning 1970s fusion jazz more commercial. For their album One on One, Earl Klugh and Bob James received a Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance of 1981.

Don Byron

Don Byron (b.1958) is a U.S. composer and clarinettist. While he is considered a jazz musician, he is stylistically very adventurous, having recorded klezmer music, German lieder, and cartoon music. Byron was born on 8th November 1958 in the Bronx, New York City and was raised by his parents who were themselves musicians, his mother a pianist; his father a bass player for calypso bands. His parents raised him listening to all kinds of music, taking him on trips to the ballet and the symphony, and also exposing him to jazz such as Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis records.

Ray Quinn

Raymond Arthur Quinn (born 25 August 1988 in Liverpool, Merseyside) is an English actor, singer, and dancer. He finished second in talent show The X Factor in 2006, and won the 2009 series of Dancing on Ice. He specialises in swing, big-band and jazz music. After The X Factor, Quinn was signed by Sony BMG and on 16 January 2007 recorded a swing album at the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles. His self-titled debut album Ray Quinn: Doing It My Way was released 12 March 2007, the same day as that of fellow X Factor finalist Ben Mills.

Hot Club of Cowtown

The Hot Club of Cowtown formed in 1996 as a hot jazz/western swing group. The group consisted of Elana Fremerman (Vocals, Violin), Whit Smith (Vocals, Guitar), and Jake Erwin (Vocals, Upright Bass). The Hot Club's first album, 1998's Swingin' Stampede, was a collection of covers of classic tunes, including two written by Bob Wills, a major influence on the band. Their 1999 follow-up album, Tall Tales, showcased the songwriting ability of both Smith and Fremerman, with many original songs, including "Forget-Me-Nots" and "That Secret of Mine...

Fapy Lafertin

Fapy Lafertin was born in 1950 in Courtraie in Belgium into the Gypsy community of Manouches. He started playing guitar at the tender age of five years. He was in a trio with his brother on guitar and his father on violin playing traditional Manouches music. Later he performed with the “Piotto” orchestra playing gypsy style and the “Hot Club de France” repetoire. In the late seventies he was a founder member of the group WASO with Koen de Cauter (reeds), Albert Vivi Limburger (rhythm) and Michel Verstraeten (acoustic bass).

The Lucky Strikes

There is more than one artist called The Lucky Strikes. 1) The Lucky Strikes are a swing band formed in 1989 by guitarist/vocalist Craig Marshall (Delta Rays/Craig Marshall Band) with friends Milan Moorman (trumpet), Brian Copeland (bassist) and Freddie Mendoza (trombone). 2).
