Lark

There are 2 bands called Lark: 1) A South African group from the city of Cape Town that formed in 2003 and disbanded in 2008. 2) A UK,East London group formed in 2006
1) Lark formed in April 2003 as a four-piece electronica band originating from Cape Town, South Africa. Their music is a groundbreaking blend of electronic beats, audio manipulation and organic instrumentation resulting in a sound that explores new musical territory.

Shinobi

There is more than one artist under the name of 'Shinobi'. Shinobi [1]: South African rap artist? Shinobi [2]: A hard rock band from Sydney, Australia. Forged out of family and mateship, the sound is delivered from brothers Eric (vocals/guitar) and Daniel Grothe (bass), Wayne Langfield (drums) and Darren Stapleton (guitar) and whilst the quartet have jammed together for years it was the definitve natural sound they were forging that led to the almost automatic progression of forming a band and playing regular gigs.

Clout

Clout were originally a five-piece, South African all-girl group formed in 1977, best known for their song "Substitute", which sold millions of copies. "Substitute" was a cover version of an obscure Righteous Brothers song, composed by Willie Wilson. Clout's version reached number two in the UK singles chart for three weeks in June 1978, and number one in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and South Africa. It only reached number sixty-seven in the U.S. for one week in September 1978, but stayed in the Billboard chart for ten weeks altogether.

Kalahari Surfers

Formed in 1982, the Kalahari Surfers was essentially a string of studio projects realised by Warrick Sony at Shifty Studios during the 80's. These involved various personel from that environment whose names were altered or simply reduced to first names to safegaurd against security dirty tricks persecution.The band itself was a fictional collective designed to dodge any flak that may have appeared from these forces.

Estelle Kokot

In 2006, Sony ATV signed three South African musican/composers to a publishing deal – Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masakela and Estelle Kokot. The following year, Estelle became Sony’s first writer to receive a nomination for a prestigious SAMA (South African Musicians’ Award). UK born South African singer/songwriter/pianist, Estelle Kokot, has thrilled audiences in venues ranging from the Jazz Clubs of South Africa to the Barbican and the Royal Festival Hall in London, as well as in various European Jazz Festivals.
