February 8 2007: The trashy nightclub had sold out hours before hand. The supports have been and gone. The lights were dim and there was a hum amongst the crowd. Friends had been talking about the first show for well over a year. The anticipation was swelling as people were jostling for position. When the first stomach-churning chord rung out there was no denying things would be different from that point on.

VOLUMES. Rhythmic, Groove, Technical, Brutal, Captivating, Face Melting are all adjectives that do not even come close to touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing the sound, image and movement exploding right now out of Southern California. The source of this decibel shattering, mind-numbing, captivating phenomenon? Los Angeles metal outfit, VOLUMES. VOLUMES are a collection of seven musicians coming from a wide array of musical backgrounds, ranging from jazz, classical, post-rock to rap and of course metal.
There are multiple artists with this name:
1) A Chilean progressive metal group.
2) An environmental ambient/experimental project by Charles Uzzell-Edwards, released three self-titled albums for Fax +49-69/450464 between 1995-1998.
3) A melodic English psychedelic band (previously named The Cortinas) with one album released in 1970.
4) A German band with four albums released from 1977-81.
5) A Norwegian band with two albums released in the early 80's.
6) A Britpop band from Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland formed in 1995. They had three hit singles before splitting up in 1997
One of the best hardcore/post-hardcore/post-powerviolence/screaming/gut-wrenching awesomeness/whatever bands in Australia, it consists of Aaron Clarke on guitar and vocals, John Irish on drums, and Abel Cross on bass and vocals. Roughly based in Sydney.
In a chance encounter at an Anthropophobiacs Anonymous meeting in South-West North Korea, Joshua Calligeros, Griffin Farley and Rowan Mount met for the first time. It is said that here they discovered their mutual appreciation of the masterpiece A Very Gregorian Christmas and hence decided to start a joint musical venture (however this is fiercely debated by the South Korean Immigration Dept.). BronzeAge are a Leicester, UK based 4 piece consisting of ex-members of Alt-punk band Public Relations Exercise. After P.R.E's demise the members spent their time licking wounds and getting on with being grown ups. However, the appeal of traveling miles for little money or thanks became too much and in 2009, BronzeAge was formed. The band’s sound is a distinct departure from their previous output; combining epic sound-scapes with angular indie riffs and dual vocal interplay. Early demos have now been recorded by Field Records owner and producer Tim Waterfield.
Moats are a four-piece originally from Biggleswade, a little market town an hour or so drive north of London. Aged between 18/19, the members: Matt Duncan – Vocals, James Pyrah – Guitar, Will Elliot – Bass and Ol No – Drums prefer to keep to themselves and allow their music to speak for itself, but don’t worry; they’re not trying to do another WU LYF!
There are at least 2 artists with the name Lungs: 1) Lungs are a Sydney punk rock trio with an attention deficit. A taste for the frantic has them mixing the speed of skate punk and thrash with the more driving anthems of post-hardcore rock. They also play, write and record at an enviable pace. Since they formed in the inner west of Sydney in 2006, they have become synonymous with Australian fast punk, touring the country and playing main supports for acts as diverse as NOFX, A Wilhelm Scream, Bouncing Souls, Mach Pelican, The City On Film and Blueline Medic.
