Dead Empires

While the band is instrumental, they choose not to label themselves as such- the sound is ever-evolving, and they’d prefer to put out music that is organic, natural, passionate- rather than stick to a particular genre. The band likes to combine a wide range of influences to produce a sound that sways from epic, ethereal soundscapes to heavy post-rock riffs, rounded out with good old fashioned sludgy heaviness.

Artist Type:

Dolorean

The band started off in bars and cafes around Portland with singer-songwriter Al James performing songs as Dolorean. It picked up speed after he teamed up with Jay Clarke and the two began to perform as a duo. Al on the guitar and Jay on a student piano. The resulting work was considered album worthy. So, with the help of The Standard's Robbie Duncan on drums Dolorean cut its first album on CDR in 2000 (later re-released in 2004).

Lonely Galaxy

This London based solo project is Howell’s first move since the demise of his former band Video Nasties and much like Transparent label mates Yuck (who feature former members of Cajun Dance Party) Howell has left jaunty indie pop behind for something much more low key. EP 1 is a raw and unrestrained release: it feels like a rough draft of something stunning, with diamonds to find in the jet black coals of the Lonely Galaxy heart.

Ebbs and Flows

Ebbs and Flows started life in an old warehouse flat in Macclesfield when Rob Calder saved up his pennies (earned through geriatric carework) to buy a four-track recorder. Inspired by folk music, Spacemen 3 records and the people around him, Rob started to record. Having utterly failed to meet like-minded people, he moved to Oxford and then Reading, where his efforts culminated in his first album, the largely acoustic 184,000,000 Miles. A demo copy of the album found its way to Holly's Demo Hell (a now-defunct column in the NME where witty putdowns were generally the order of the day).

Formed in 2006 into the vapid whirlpool era of fluro dance-punk, the quintet has since been impossible to pin down to any one sound or genre, opting for distinct stylistic strides between releases.
