Michael McGoldrick

Michael McGoldrick (b. 1971, Manchester, England) is a flute and tin whistle player of great renown. He also plays the Uilleann pipes. He has been a member of several influential bands. In 1994 he was awarded the BBC Young Tradition Award, and, in 2001, he was given the Instrumentalist of the Year award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. McGoldrick was a founder-member of Celtic rock band, Toss the Feathers while still at school. He also competed in the Fleadhanna with Dezi Donnelly (fiddle) and John-Jo Kelly (bodhrán) whom he had met at local Comhaltas meetings.

Campfires In Winter

TRUSSED up and with white crosses over their mouths, Croy-based band Campfires In Winter (formerly Overcry) look like lambs to the slaughter. While the picture may suggest they are Chemical Romance fans, the four piece have more to offer than second-rate emo angst. "This is a young Scots band with huge promise. Their alternative rock leanings hint at Editors, Muse and Pink Floyd but Campfires In Winter have a unique sound and use their own Scots accents.

Lowri Evans

Lowri Evans is a Bi-lingual Welsh Singer/Songwriter from Pembrokeshire West Wales. Famous in Wales for her meaningful lyrics, and her Welsh CD releases "Clyw Sibrydion (Hear Whispers)" in 2006 and "Dim Da Maria (Not at Maria's)" in 2008 both released on the RASP label part of Fflach (www.fflach.co.uk). One of many original artists from Wales. The beauty of her songs can still be appreciated, even if you can't understand the Welsh language.

Kathryn Tickell

Kathryn Tickell (b. 1967) is an English player of the Northumbrian smallpipes and fiddle. She has recorded eleven albums, and toured widely. Kathryn Tickell took up the smallpipes aged nine, inspired by her family - especially her father Mike, who was heavily involved in the local traditional music scene - and by the music of an older generation of traditional musicians such as Willie Taylor, Will Atkinson, Joe Hutton, Richard Moscrop and Tom Hunter.

Filska

Filska is a high energy, traditional band from the Shetland Islands. Their music is built around traditional fiddle tunes. 'Filska' means 'high spirited' in the local language of the Shetland Islands. Band members include: Jenna Reid; fiddle, vocals & accordion, Bethany Reid; fiddle, vocals & piano, Gemma Wilson; fiddle & vocals and Andrew Tulloch; guitar & vocals. Jenna, Bethany and Gemma grew up on the Shetland Islands, and began playing together at local events an early age. They were frequent prizewinners in the Young Fiddler of the Year Competition, an annual event in the islands.

Alasdair Fraser

Alasdair Fraser is a Scottish fiddler who is based in California and runs his own record label, Culburnie Records. He also founded the Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School, which has been attended by many of today's prominent young fiddlers, including Hanneke Cassel, Laura Risk, Athena Tergis, Brittany Haas, and Lissa Schneckenburger. He has often collaborated with pianist Paul Machlis and Scottish guitarist Tom McManus, among others.

Jacqui McShee

Jacqueline 'Jacqui' McShee (born 25 December 1943, in Catford, South East London) is an English singer. Since 1966 she has performed with Pentangle, a jazz influenced folk rock band. McShee's musical career began as a soloist in British folk clubs in the mid-1960s. After working with guitarist John Renbourn, she co-founded Pentangle. Pentangle rapidly established itself as one of the earliest exponents of the British folk rock movement.

John McCusker

John McCusker is one of Scotland's foremost traditional musicians. A professional since the age of seventeen, he was a vital member of the renowned Battlefield Band and toured the world with them for 11 years. He is an amazing performer, the producer of some of the best selling folk recordings, a guest much sought after by major live and recording artists and a composer of exquisite melodies which are performed world wide.
