Hijaz

Hijaz is sextet that combines elements from worldmusic and jazz. Moufadhel Adhoum, Tunesian oudplayer brings in the Nord-African melodic themes while, Niko Deman from Greek origine adds his traditional influences to the music. Together with the Moroccan percussionist Azzedine Jazzouli, basplayer Vincent Noiret and percussionist Chryster Aerts both jazz musicians from Belgium, Hijaz creates a European-Meditaranian jazzy sound. http://www.myspace.com/hijazgroup

Tim Berne

Tim Berne (born 1954) is an American jazz saxophone player and composer. Though Berne was a music fan, he had no interest in playing a musical instrument until he was in college, when he purchased an alto saxophone. He was more interested in rhythm and blues music--Stax records releases and Aretha Franklin, especially--until he heard a recording by Julius Hemphill. Hemphill was known for his integration of soul music and funk with free jazz. Berne moved to New York City in 1974. There Berne took lessons from Hemphill, and later recorded with him.

Tanghetto

Tanghetto is a Buenos Aires-based band that focuses its material in the combination of Argentine tango with electronic music, jazz and other musical genres. The “Tanghetto sound” is rather unique; it's a fusion of diverse sources of inspiration, both contemporary and traditional, that converge in Buenos Aires with the bandoneon (the nostalgic and characteristic instrument of the tango). Bandoneon takes the singer's role and is surrounded by diverse acoustic instruments and a sonic wall of synths and samplers.

This Melbourne based, five piece, funky reggae act first landed on the Australian scene as a way to play mutually loved music. Cosmic Kids Ron Poznansky and Dan Terndrup didn’t meet in outer space as their DJ moniker may indicate, but the story is still equally as good. The two met in a high school classroom meant for kids who had trouble paying attention. They bonded over their love of classic rock. Right out of high school they both volunteered to work at the Los Angeles radio station KCRW. Known for its eclectic programming, the friends were exposed to all different kinds of music, and began collecting and consuming records, feeding their ever-expanding appetite for music.

DJam et Fam est un Project de Djamel Allam Djamel Allam est un chanteur, musicien kabyle, né en 1947 à Béjaïa en Kabylie (Algérie). Il apprend la musique au conservatoire de musique de Béjaïa, puis part en 1970 à Marseille puis Paris. Il s'essaye à la chanson française dans les cabarets de la capitale (rue Mouffetard...). En 1972 il apparait en première partie du spectacle de Brigitte Fontaine et Areski à Alger. En 1974, il travaille à la radio France Inter avec Claude Villers qui le recommande aux disques Escargots (éditeur de François Béranger et Gilles Vigneault notamment).

Remember Shakti is the second incarnation of guitarist John McLaughlin's group which plays a fusion of indian music and jazz. The original Shakti was most active between 1975 and 1978; Remember Shakti was formed in 2000 and has played on and off since then. The core of Remember Shakti is guitarist John McLaughlin and master tabla player and percussionist Zakir Hussain, both members of the original Shakti. On the first recording from 2000, T.H. Vinayakram (also a member of the original Shakti) plays ghatam and Indian drum, and Hariprasad Chaurasia plays bansuri flute.

Jungle by Night is a young and swinging, promising band from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Friends, family and former strangers form a nine-headed ensemble, which is the talk of the town at this moment.
