The droll tone and fleeting sweetness of a Yo La Tengo are cut into the more deeply textural concerns of shoegaze in the Baltimore group's work. It's an interesting alignment, given the contrast in senses of humor. But Wye Oak successfully shed tonnage from the latter without losing potency. Wye Oak (formerly known as Monarch) are Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack. Jenn & Andy have been playing music together and apart in Baltimore, MD, and chose their name from the honorary state tree of Maryland.

Whilst originally forming in Sydney, Australia in 2005, The Death Set (also spelt TheDeathSet or The DeathSet) have traversed the world delivering their high energy club punk. Now based in Baltimore, America they have extensively toured in the DIY, punk and club circuits with a sound that uniquely attracts audiences in all those scenes. Core members are Johnny Siera and Beau Velasco, utilising just two highly distorted guitars and microphones for recordings, with a third member being their post-casiotone, electronic club backing beats.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she spent most of her childhood both in Baltimore and Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Elliot was widely considered the most charismatic member of the Mamas & the Papas due to her sense of humor and optimism, in part because of her large size and weight.
