Just Handshakes (We're British)

Hailing from Leeds, West Yorkshire, Just Handshakes (We’re British) are an Art-PowerPop-Wave quartet. The band draws influence from a wide range of sources, such as the Indie music output of Sweden, New-wave and Yorkshire tea.

Lettuce

(...)It was 1992 at the Berklee School of Music, and a few high school summer session kids exploded onto the Boston jazz scene with killer chops and bottomless energy. Drawn together at the altar of funky soul, Eric Krasno, Sam Kininger, Adam Deitch, Erick Coomes, Jeff Bhasker, and Ryan Zoidis began taking over local clubs and jam nights on borrowed sound equipment. Brash and precocious, the guys always got what they needed: "Let us borrow your gear." "Let us play one more tune." "Let us crash on your couch." Thus Lettuce ("Let us...") was born, and the funky gospel found another apostle.

Session Americana

Session Americana sit tightly around a small café table, ambient mics tuned to catch the whole sound of the voices and instruments. Asuitcase drum kit, an old electric bass, a bunch of acoustic instruments, a field organ – this format feels very theatri-cal and though the musicians face each other, the audience feels drawn into the circle by the warmth, joy and camaraderie that emanate outwards by the all star cast of characters seated around the table. What keeps you coming back show after show is the same thing that any audience member longs for – great songs performed by a great band.

Therefore I Am

These days, people put bands together looking to cash-in on a particular "scene." They cobble together a slick MySpace page, hire an agent and a "fan"-ager and quickly develop an inflated sense-of-entitlement. And while that's one way to go about it, there is also the old-fashioned DIY model: form a band with friends in a basement, tour your butts off until your songs and stage-show have something unique and powerful to offer and build a real following.

Bim Skala Bim

Bim Skala Bim formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1983, was one of America's initial responses to Britain's 2-Tone movement in the early '80s. They made several albums, started their own music label to release the music of other aspiring Ska bands, and remained active through 2002. Also inspired by the Clash, UB40 and Bob Marley, the group became one of the longest-lasting ska groups in America. Formed by vocalist Dan Vitale and bassist Mark Ferranti...
