LAN

There are two artists with the name LAN. An electronic music band from the SugarCandyMountain collective in Berlin (1), and a Swiss ska band (2). (1) LAN are Colya Kärcher (vocals), Thalstroem (electronic wind instrument, trumpet), Henning Grambow (synthesizers), Quancing Deen (drums) and Elektroaku (synthesizers) from the Berlin-based SugarCandyMountain collective. LAN combine programmed electronic music with live elements played on both accoustic and electronic instruments and vocals. Their music encompasses a wide variety of styles, from experimental, jazz-oriented tracks to dance music.

Andrew Pekler

Andrew Pekler was born in Samarkand, Uzbekistan (then U.S.S.R.). His family immigrated to the U.S., eventually settling in Monterey, California. In the mid 90s he moved to Heidelberg, Germany to attend university. Since 2000 he has been living and working in Berlin.

Under his own name he has produced two records for the ̃scape label, Station to Station (2002) and Nocturnes, False Dawns and Breakdowns (2004) as well as releasing Strings + Feedback (2005) on Staubgold. His latest album Cue, was released in June 2007 on Kranky (Chicago, USA).

Music project of Caribou's Dan Snaith. Daphni's debut album, Jiaolong, will be released on 8 October on Merge Records. "During the time I was making the Caribou album Swim, I'd fallen back in love with moments in small, dark clubs when a DJ puts on a piece of music that not only can you not identify, but that until you heard it you could not have conceived of existing," Snaith said. "Daphni tracks are rough and spontaneous … They're about working fast and intuitively, capturing the manic energy needed to start a track one afternoon, have it finished, and be playing it in a club that night."
