There are two different artists under the name Minamo: An electro-acoustic rock group and a Free Jazz/Classical Duo. 1. In 1999, the electro-acoustic group Minamo was formed by Keiichi Sugimoto and Tetsuro Yasunaga. In 2000, minamo's self-released CD-R "wakka" was reissued by the New York label Quakebasket. This release was selected by Matmos as one of best sounds in 2001 in The Wire magazine.
In 2001 two new members joined, Yuiichiro Iwashita (guitar) and Namiko Sasamoto (sax, organ), to make the band a quartet. In 2002, first CD album ".kgs" has released by the Tokyo label 360 records.
Peter and the Wulf are a folk duo based in Oxford, UK, performing fresh arrangements of songs from the folk repertoire. Pete Ward, on guitar and vocals, and Wulf Forrester-Barker, on electric upright bass, are often accompanied by a violinist, with the talented Jill Allen performing this role on their February 2010 demo.
Blowzabella produce an inimitable, driving drone-based sound played with a fabulous sense of melody, rhythmic expertise and sheer feeling. Originally formed in 1978 they have played everywhere from the main stage at Glastonbury Festival to the outer reaches of Brazil and West Africa and innumerable places in between. They compose their own music which is influenced by British and European traditional dance music. Many bands across Europe who experiment with the boundaries of folk music cite Blowzabella as a major influence.
Dmitry Sitkovetsk was born in Baku, Azerbaijan to violinist Julian Sitkovetsky and pianist Bella Davidovich. His father died in 1958, when Sitkovetsky was three years old. He grew up in Moscow. He studied there at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1977, aged twenty-two, he decided he wanted to leave the Soviet Union. To that end, he registered himself as mentally ill. His plan worked and he arrived at New York on September 11, 1977. He immediately entered the Juilliard School.
