The Wailers

There is more than one artist with this name: 1) In the mid-60s, Bob Marley, Bunny Livingston (also known as Bunny Wailer), Winston McIntosh (aka Peter Tosh), Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso and Cherry Smith shortened their previous moniker, The Wailing Rudeboys, to The Wailers. Up until 1974, recordings were credited to The Wailers, after which Livingston and Tosh left to pursue solo careers and Marley formed a new backing band, recording as Bob Marley & The Wailers. After Marley's death in 1981, his band continued to tour and record as The Wailers or The Wailers Band.

Errol Dunkley

Errol Dunkley is a Jamaican reggae singer, born in Kingston in 1951. Dunkley's recording career began in 1965, when he was fourteen, with "Gypsy" (a duet with Roy Shirley) for Lindel Pottinger's Gaydisc label, "My Queen" (with Junior English) for Prince Buster, and "Love Me Forever" on the Rio label [1]. Between 1967 and 1968 he recorded several singles for Joe Gibbs including "Please Stop Your Lying" (1967) and "Love Brother" (1968), before switching to Coxsone Dodd in 1969.[2]

Stanley Beckford

Stanley was born February 17, 1942 in the parish of Portland. He was orphaned as a child and wound up living in Kingston. Taking a path that other Jamaican recording artists followed, he began singing in church, and then gained prominence by winning on the Vere Johns radio talent competition. Stanley recorded reggae as Stanley & The Turbines and in The Starlites. Although clearly reggae, his music had a tinge of mento, displaying a country sound, especially due to Stanley's mento style vocals. When the mento influence was stronger, his recordings could best be described as "mento-reggae".

Skambomambo

Skambomambo is led by Maltese frontman Don Mario boosted by the SkamboMob based in Szczecin, Poland.Skambomambo fuses its own original brand of Ska with other genres like rock, pop, punk, funk and so one as the various members of the SkamboMob have a wide gigging past and this inspires the Ska Made in Pol-Ska as presented by SKAMBOMAMBO.

Vespa

VESPA is one of the first Polish bands playing ska music. Created in Szczecin in 1995 by secondary school students Radar (vocal), Krzaq (bass), Pasterz (drums) and Kantor (guitar). The band was soon joined by Maciek (guitar) and they called themselves VESPA and began to conquer the world. At this time the band members were fascinated by so called third wave of ska but due to poor music skills at that time, they sounded more like poor ska-punk.

Dawn Penn

Dawn Penn (born Dawn Pickering, 1952, in Kingston, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae singer. In 1967 she recorded and had released the rocksteady single "You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)", produced by Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. In 1970, she left the music industry and moved to the Virgin Islands. However, in 1987 she returned to Jamaica and music. In the summer of 1994 she re-recorded and re-released the single "You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)" (with Steely & Clevie on production), topping the charts in the U.S., Europe, and her native Jamaica.

The Dualers

The Dualers are street performing brothers Si and Tyber. The Dualers perform a unique blend of ska, soul and reggae that appeals to all ages with members of their database ranging from 1 to 91. They have a fan base of approaching 10,000 members but have probably been seen by in excess of 4 million whilst busking around the south east and performing at private functions, for the last 8 years. They have sold over 35,000 copies of their first two cd's on the streets alone.

Bob Marley

Bob Marley (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981), born Nesta Robert Marley which was later to be changed by passport officials to Robert Nesta Marley, was a Jamaican singer-songwriter, guitarist, and activist. He was the most widely known writer and performer of reggae, and more specifically roots reggae. He is famous for popularising the genre outside of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Much of his music dealt with the struggles of the spiritually wealthy rasta and/or spiritually powerful Jah Rastafari.

Rico Rodriguez

Emmanuel Rodriguez (Rico, Reco, El Reco) (b. 1934) is a Jamaican trombonist. Born on 17th October 1934 in Kingston, Jamaica, by the age of ten he had learnt to play the trombone from strict nuns. In the 1950s, Rodriguez became a Rasta, and became closely musically related to Rasta drummer Count Ossie. He recorded with many producers, including Prince Buster and Lloyd 'Matador' Daley. In 1961, Rodriguez moved to Eng;and, where he continued to play in reggae bands.
