Junior Marvin (aka Junior Kerr aka Junior Hanson aka Julian Marvin) is a Jamaican born guitarist. Junior met Bob Marley on February 14, 1977 (Valentine's Day) and thereafter joined Bob Marley and The Wailers Band. After Bob Marley passed Junior carried on the music of The Wailers Band releasing albums ID, Majestic Warriors, Jah Message, and My Friends. Junior is commonly confused with Junior Murvin who also is a reggae artist.
In the early days of the Wailing Souls, the first name that the group came up with in the late 60's was the Renegades. This group consisted of Winston 'Pipe' Matthews on lead vocals, Lloyd 'Bread' McDonald, and George 'Buddy' Haye. This line-up recorded backing vocals for an Ernest Ranglin album before breaking up in 1968. 'Pipe' and 'Bread' teamed up with two other singers after that, Oswald Downes and Norman Davis, and recorded the single "Gold Digger" for producer, Lloyd "Matador" Daley.
Formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 2004. The Audreys play alternative folk music. They have released three records, one in 2006 called Between Last Night and Us, another in 2008 called When The Flood Comes, and in 2010 Sometimes The Stars. Their first two records won the ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album. Gregory Isaacs is a Reggae singer/songwriter, born Gregory Anthony Isaacs on 15 July 1950 in Fletchers Land, Kingston, Jamaica, and is known as "The Cool Ruler" for his seductive crooning vocal style. Gregory attributes his greatest musical influences to R&B greats Sam Cooke and Percy Sledge, in addition to Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis and Ken Boothe. In the late 1960's, Gregory first performed in a vocal trio called The Concords, after being encouraged by Byron Lee; but 1970 the group had split up and the singer songwriter would form his own imprint, African Museum.
The Gladiators were a Jamaican reggae band formed in 1967 in Kingston by four friends from the same neighborhood: Albert Griffiths, Clinton Fearon, Errol Grandison, and David Webber. In 1968, Griffiths and Webber joined forces with Errol Grandison, to form the Gladiators. The band soon topped the Jamaican charts with "Hello Carol" in late 1968. However not long after their first chart success David Webber started to show signs of serious mental illness. The decline in Webber's mental health meant that he was eventually replaced in the band by Clinton Fearon.
Makating are a reggae band based in Oxford. They have been together for over 7 years and are now 10 members strong, including a 3 piece horn section. Well known for their live acts both locally and in similar scenes around the UK, Makating are a captivating group of performers. The core band Makating (meaning something 'powerful') was formed from a week long studio session in December 1994. Surprised by the results, the band rehearsed as an eight piece and performed their first shows in March 1995 quickly building a strong local following.
Toots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of ska and reggae music. Their sound is a unique, original combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock. Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the leader of the group, was born in May Pen in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up singing gospel music in a church choir, but moved to Kingston in 1961 at the age of sixteen.
