Cocktail Slippers

This foxy female fivesome from Oslo, Norway, is the perfect mixture of sweet and sour, combining girl-group harmonies and sass with gritty rock 'n' roll fervor to produce a high-octane hybrid that should have all the hepcats dancing. The ladies, whose CD happens to be one of the first releases from Steven Van Zandt's new label, comprise more than just an all-female version of early, hard-rocking Blondie. This is a non-standard garage-hard rock-surf-pop band that manages to mix up the formula to keep things fresh.

The Arrivals

The Arrivals are a four piece from Blue Island, Illinois, Southside of Chicago. They write songs about everything and nothing, sometimes all at once. They sound like Mission of Burma trying to write Kinks songs, though most people have their own f-ed up description that may be just as valid. They've toured with Dillinger Four(with whom they now share a bass player), The Soviettes, Toys That Kill, Rise Against, Tiltwheel, Vena Cava, Grabass Charlestons, and The Lawrence Arms.

Glow Kit

Garage-pop or punk-powerpop? Glow Kit don’t gamble on horses – the aesthetics here are dirty, catchy and hard-hitting. In a time when the term ‘pop music’ is luckily no longer a curse word among picky music lovers, we need musicians who know how to write a good pop song. No matter what genre or style this melody relates to! In this case, the Aarhus, Denmark duo devise a blend of / / that draws on inspiration from musicians such as The Beat, Black Lips, the late Jay Reatard and others.
